History

The journey of Freedom City began in 2010 with a humble street outreach initiative led by Michael Gomes in Moss Park. This initiative focused on providing immediate physical sustenance, such as baked goods, alongside mental and spiritual support. From 2011-2013 we partnered with The Followers Mission to use their indoor space and resources to help the homeless and the poor in the downtown Toronto area.

This outreach laid the groundwork for what would become a transformative community movement. By 2014, after four years of dedicated service and community engagement, Freedom City was officially launched, starting at the Parliament Street Library and afterwards setting its roots in the vibrant St. James Town community. Over the years through collaboration with leading businesses and organizations, a strong commitment by our leaders and volunteers and consistent community engagment, Freedom City has grown to be a leading organization in the fight against poverty and food insecurity in the GTA.
