To set people free in every area of their lives, using all means at our disposal, through the love of God, that they might receive every good thing that God has for them.
Freedom City is an inner city outreach based Christian Ministry located in St. James Town in Downtown Toronto. We are driven by our love for God and our desire to see people set free in every area of their lives, that they might have the best life that God has for them. We are focused on ministering especially to the Unchurched, the Poor, the broken and the lost.
The roots of the Ministry goes back to a Street Outreach that Pastor Michael Gomes started in 2009 in Moss Park. This involved giving out baked goods and prayer for those in need. After doing this for a bit over a year, and having a desire to do more, a small group of Believers began to meet at The Followers Mission ( located at Queen and Sherbourne) every Monday from January 2011 to December 2013. During these years, as we ministered to many people, our hearts grew with compassion for the lost and the desire to see people set free from all kinds of bondage in their lives.
After much prayer and waiting on the Lord, Pastor Michael started Freedom City in the Spring of 2014 at the Parliament Street Library. One year thereafter, we moved the Ministry Base to the St. James Town community. Since the Spring of 2015 we have had weekly Outreach Programs in St. James Town. During this time as we interact with the Community, we have had a wide diversity of special programs and outreaches on a continuous basis. Most of our activities are held in the small community park, with the use of the Rose Avenue Public School and other available spaces for indoor programs.
Setting People Free
At the heart of Who we are and all that we do is our love for God and our desire to see people come to know the Lord Jesus and be set free in every area of their lives.
We are an outreach based Ministry that is focused on reaching the Unchurched. We believe that to reach people we need to go to where they are. Therefore, most of our activities are held in open spaces, including Parks and the Streets. We also have indoor activities and small group meetings in homes, Coffee shops etc.
We have a holistic approach to helping people. We therefore offer a wide diversity of programs including Worship and Prayer Gatherings, Distribution of food (baked goods, fruits, vegetables), Clothing, Bibles and other literature, Counselling, Cultural Celebrations (Christmas, Easter), Education program, Jobs help, and anything else that we are able to do to help people encounter the Love of God and be set free
